    LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

    NEUROLOGY II:

    1)    How to implement a neuro examination into a current upper cervical practice.
    2)    What neurological tests should be used pre and post adjustment as a confirmation of proper adjustment and if that adjustment was best for the neurology of the patient.
    3)    Understanding of CCJ misalignment as a primary or secondary problem.
    4)    What are the causes and consequences of increased and decreased CSF pressure.
    5)    Understand the connection between CCJ, Autonomic nervous system, and clinical presentations.
    6)    Understanding the role of CCJ in concussion, the physiology, management, and referral for complicated concussion cases.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    1.     Quality Radiography in the Busy Chiropractic Practice (2 hours)
    a.     X-ray Physics
    b.     Radiographic Technique and its Effects
    c.     Troubleshooting Radiographs
    d.     Digital Radiography

    Understand the working concepts of x-ray physics to facilitate dynamic interaction of the x-ray machine and operator, ensuring ability to troubleshoot both film and digital x-ray units and ability to reliably create diagnostic quality images.

    2.     Radiographic Examination of the Cervical Spine (3 hours)
    a.     Normal Variants
    b.     Roentgenometrics
    c.     Select Pathologies on X-ray

    Recognize normal, and normal variant radiographic anatomy, and accurately differentiate this from the more common and diagnostically important pathologies on conventional radiographic examinations.

    3.     Advanced Imaging of the Cervical spine (2 hours)
    a.     CT
    b.     MRI

    Understand the utility of cross sectional imaging (CT and MRI) in the diagnostic workup of chiropractic patients for both common and less well-known conditions of the head and neck.

    4.     Whiplash Injury (2 hours)
    a.     Whiplash Associated Disorder
    b.     Ligamentous Structures of the Upper Cervical Spine

    Recognize the ligamentous structures of the upper cervical spine on MRI imaging, and understand the mechanism of whiplash associated injuries and their effects on the cervical spine.

    5.     Chiari Malformations (1 hour)

    Describe the various types of Chiari malformations and identify relevant anatomy on upright and recumbent MR imaging studies.

    6.     “Fluid Dynamics” of the Head and Neck (1 hour)
    a.     CSF
    b.     Arterial Complex
    c.     Venous Structures and Dural Venous Sinuses

    Appreciate the different contributors to the fluid dynamics of the craniocervical spine, and understand the applications and limitations of diagnostic imaging studies in investigating the interrelationships of the fluid dynamics in this region.

    COURSE CONTENTS

    Enhanced understanding of Craniocervical Junction Anatomy & Biomechanics

    Explore patient intake considerations

    Provide considerations for imaging the CCJ – XRAY, CBCT, MR (including a review of ionizing radiation exposure considerations)

    Overview of chiropractic listing analysis considerations – integrating various established UC systems

    Case reviews and group discussion will be used to evaluate special, difficult & interesting cases

    Introduce concepts of ascending and descending considerations for interdisciplinary care
